Geocache Description:

An easy walk/hike to part of the old Ilchester ruins.

This place is a fun alternate for those who are tired of visiting the east portion off of Ilchester road in Patapsco Valley State Park. It is full of old ruins and beautiful forest. In 1987 the Maryland Department of Natural Resources acquired 77 acres (0.31 km2) of the site and annexed the land to Patapsco Valley State Park. Consider bringing a trash bag with you to help clean up the area from the trash others have left behind. [Credit to volnavy2 for this description; it is spot-on.] We live not far from this area and often hike early in the morning. As mentioned in the shorter description, it's good to bring a bag along, since many of the 'visitors' leave bottles and other trash behind. We take a large trash bag when the weather is nice as the trash can really build up :(. I've met local folks who visited this area when it was an active Catholic school/campus of some sort. As of 1972 or so, it was still in-use. it wasn't until much later that they finally had to tear down the remaining structures.
