The old ball park: Lanier Field (Edo Miller Field)

This the 8th cache in the Historical Brunswick Series


This cache is at the at the site of the old Lanier Field - now Edo Miller Field. The old Lanier Field encompassed the old baseball and football field. This cache focuses on the history of baseball at the old Lanier Baseball Field.


Look out for Muggles. Cache is a extra small micro. BYOP and paper clip or tweezers to retrieve log. Please place back as you found it. Please recover with the natural covering that's on top of the cache.

These are the minor league Brunswick teams that played here along with some interesting facts:

1906-1907 Class D baseball team River Snipes

1913-1915 Class D baseball team Brunswick Pilots

1951-1956 Class D baseball team Brunswick Pirates

1957-1958 Class D baseball team Brunswick Phillies

1962-1963 Class D baseball team Brunswick Cardinals

Most famous Person to play for any of the Brunswick teams: Brunswick Pirates Mario Cuomo (52nd governor of New York)

Player who had the most successful baseball career who played for a Brunswick team: Fred Green pitcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates ‘59-’64

I encourage you to research about the history of Brunswick minor league teams. It’s makes for a very interesting read.

Another interesting note:

My father who is a Brunswick native, remembers  while growing up (back in the late 1930’s - early 1940’s) people bringing their animals to Lanier Field to let them graze. They would bring cows to the area behind the baseball field in the morning and tie them up. Then they would come back later in the evening to bring them home. You don’t see things like that anymore.
