Welcome to Robinson's bay! This bay was named after Mr Robinson who came down to Akaroa in 1840. It was here where he bought 100 acres and lived on it for some time. The bay was covered with heavy timber and soon had a mill. Runaway sailors found refuge here and lived by pit sawing. The warf to your left was later created to allow vessels to come and transport timber.
The Robinson's bay post office was the smallest operational post office in Canterbury during its time. It operated from 1912 till January 1st 1960. This post office is no longer functional but stays open as a part of the Robinson's bay heritage.
Please take your time to enjoy the gorgeous view of the bay's boat sheds.
