Geocache Description:

The Johnston County Heritage GeoTrail is a series of 50 caches placed throughout Johnston County’s 11 municipalities by the Johnston County Visitors Bureau. Each container is either a small lock n lock container or if a multi-stage cache the final is a large green bison tube.

Through the JCHGT you will explore some of the county's best tourist spots, museums, historical sites, and more as you find caches. Remember to record the code word located on the lid of the caches on your passport.

The passport can be picked up at the Johnston County Visitors Bureau at 234 Venture Drive, Smithfield, NC 27577. The JCVB is open M-F 8AM to 5 PM.

Once you have recorded all 50 code words on your passport – return it to the Visitors Bureau for your geocoin.

The Battle of Bentonville, fought March 19-21, 1865, was the last full-scale action of the Civil War in which a Confederate army was able to mount a tactical offensive. This major battle, the largest ever fought in North Carolina, was the only significant attempt to defeat the large Union army of Gen. William T. Sherman during its march through the Carolinas in the spring of 1865.
