Geocache Description:

Derek Doubleday is being upgarded on an ongoing effort to make a change in Langley. It offers flat gravel trails that are wheel chair accessible but the cache would be hard to get to from a wheel chair without some help. There is a bridge over the small creek running through the park. There are several lookouts to view the area.
This cache is locted at one of those lookouts.

A long-serving Township of Langley employee who loved trees and was dedicated to preserving parkland has been commemorated in a very fitting way. On Saturday, October 4, 2008 12 hectares of property between 56 Avenue and the Fraser Highway was officially named the Derek Doubleday Arboretum. A total of 150 native evergreen and deciduous trees were planted for the event, which was attended by a large crowd of Derek’s family and friends, former coworkers and neighbours, elected officials and members of the community.

Derek was a municipal clerk, clerk/administrator, and administrator who served with six mayors between the years 1948 to 1983. He preferred to stay in the background, but loved trees and green space, and was proud to be involved with preserving the Milner Valley as an agricultural entity and acquiring land for park space. After 35 years of service to the municipality, Derek retired on his 60th birthday, leaving a legacy of commitment and cooperation with many organizations he worked with.

Bring a Pen and sign the log as it is a requirement of Geocaching. No Sign = Deleted Log

Derek passed away in White Rock on October, 2003, at the age of 80. His wife, Gloria, addressed the crowd during the Arboretum dedication, and thanked Township of Langley Council and staff for their work on the new green space. She and was joined by her son David, his wife, and their two children in unveiling the signage and planting the 150th tree at the Arboretum.

This Park continues to grow and change yearly. I wanted to replace a Challenge Cache I had here that had 10 finds in 4 years. It is time to bring back some of you that have been here before and see the changes that have taken place.

Please remember that the Township of Langley allows NO NIGHT Caching

Please replace cache as found

Bring a Pen and sign the log. It is a requirement of geocaching and nothing in log is = to deleted log.
