WOOF woof!! Simpson Park is a great off-lead dog park. The cache is positioned away from the oval, so should be fairly easy to get to without being spotted. The park is busiest in the late afternoon and evening when the weather is fine - at these times exercise caution in timing your run at the cache. Also on Sunday mornings the oval is home to the Eastern Suburbs Obedience Dog Club, and is filled with a variety of both dogs and owners at varying stages of obedience.
The off-lead park continues across Cochrane St (where there is also a kid's playground), and follows the Somers Trail along the creek.
Cache Information
The cache is a round, dark blue, screw top container. Kudos to thedoctorswife for creating the hide.
Beware False Caches
You may find a Scout cache under a nearby tree but this is not the cache you are looking for! Canine Capers has a cache name and GC number on the log book. This cache has been relocated further down the hill so should no longer be an issue.
Cache History
Canine Capers was first launched at 5pm on May 5, 2017. It was retracted 4 hours later when it was discovered to be in close proximity to the mystery cache GCMTMJ A Totally Simpson's Cache. It was subsequently relaunched one week later at its current location.

Simpson Park Multi-cache - Basic Member Tips
I have also placed another cache (A Pirate's Moon) nearby in Simpson Park. It is a multi-cache, so if you have basic membership it will be greyed out in the Geocaching App. However, you may not be aware that multi-caches, mystery caches, wherigos, advanced traditionals and the like are actually available to you, as long as the cache owner hasn't restricted them to premium members only.
There are 3 steps to accessing these other cache types:
1. In your browser, open the Geocache Map to find the cache icon and tap on it to bring up a pop up of the listing. If on a phone, tap and hold the cache link to open the page in a new tab (a single tap will attempt to use the Geocaching App to open the page, which will be unsuccessful). This link A Pirate's Moon will take you to its cache page directly.
2. In order to navigate to the cache you must manually enter the listed coordinates into the Geocaching App. This is done by adding them as a Waypoint to any accessible listing, such as Canine Capers for example. I have already done this for A Pirate's Moon, so if you look within the current listing under Waypoints you should be able to tap on A Pirate's Moon and then tap the navigation arrow beneath it.
3. Once the cache is found you will need to log your find back at the website. However, once you have done so it will also show up on the Geocaching App and you will find you also have full access to the listing. Good Luck!

"Gone, But Not Forgotten" - A Tribute To The Archived Caches Of Simpson Park
It's an interesting experience, becoming a cache owner. Suddenly your attachment to a particular place gets stronger, and when you glimpse snatches of references to previous caches you want to know more.
It's a bit like researching your family tree - who was here, what were they like, what happened to them?
To my knowledge, there have been 2 caches that sadly are no more:
