He invented both the telegraph and the binary morse alphabet, which was a great communicative invention, and made it possible to send messages quickly and efficiently over large distances. Morse can also be communicated in a wide variety of ways, as long as you can precisely control on and off. Examples are audio, light, touch and radio signal. Sending a morse signal across distances does not require large infrastructure. A good example of this is the communication between the command in England and spies and agents in Norway during World War II. They could lay in particular insubstantial places and communicate with their superiors.
