In 1980, the Bridgewater Volunteer Fire Department's firemen were meeting at the old pole barn beside the pump station. They would have their meeting behind the fire trucks in the winter because it was too cold to have the trucks sit outside for fear they would freeze up. Inside it was too cold for the firemen to do much training because temperatures were around 50 degrees.I
In 1996, the city of Bridgewater applied for a HUD grant to assist in building a new Fire Hall. Our Mayor, Carl Goldstine, also a long time member of the department, received a call from Governor Bill Janklow telling him that the department received a grant for $112,500.00. When Carol received the call, he thought someone was playing a joke on him and he hung up on the Governor. The departmnet did actually receive the grant and the new fire station was dedicated in July of 1996.
