This cache was placed as part of my ParticipACTION 150 event to get Canadians out, moving and exploring this beautiful country!
The story behind this cache truly embodies the spirit of geocaching and it is fitting that it is being released as part of the ParticipACTION 150: Learn to Geocache event. This event is to celebrate Canada's 150th birthday and this cache's origin story begins on Canada's 149th birthday (July 1st, 2016). We were out in the back country, enjoying a day of caching when we came across an illegal operation in the bush. Being geocachers, we were able to give RCMP exact coordinates to locate and dismantle the operation. A couple months later, we returned to the area to find that the illegal operation had been (mostly) cleaned up, however a lot of garbage remained strewn about. We hauled a bunch of the garbage out of the bush in an effort to CITO (Cache In, Trash Out). The items used to create this cache was among that garbage. No longer being useful as their intended purpose, this cache idea was born! Geocaching is about exploring, making memories, recycling items into fresh uses and cleaning up our playground (aka the world!) This cache ticks all those boxes! A story that began on Canada Day 2016 has come full circle and this fun cache is a great and memorable way to celebrate another year of this amazing country of ours!
