Martins creek is the best example of Warm Temperate Rainforest. This cache is placed just near a picnic area and river. A worthwhile stop for more then just a cache.
The rainforest starts just north of the picnic area. A walk along the road will provide fantastic views of it and give you a chance to appreciate it without the muddy shoes. Personally i'd prefer the muddy shoes and suggest heading off the road. Even only walking in 20 metres will give you quite an amazing experience. Keep in between the river and road and you shouldn't get lost amongst the vines the same size as you.
Unlike almost the entire length of the road between Orbost and The Gap north of Goongerah, this area did not burn in the 2014 fires, even though DELWP did try on 4 occasions to ignite it (so much for competent fire managers).
Rainforests while they will burn in extreme conditions are an excellent buffer against fire.
The cache is on the east side of the road behind a tree, please ensure it gets covered again with woody debris and rocks to try and keep it dry and it may become visible from the road.
