Picnic Parks, does anyone under the age of 40 even know what they are? Picnics were a big thing in the 60's and 70's, packing up a bunch of food and a table cloth and setting off in the car to a park specifically for people to sit and eat. Fast Food chains were the death of the picnic parks, why go through all that trouble when you could have your food hot and fast. Mabou Provincial Picnic Park is probably the last one on the west coast of Cape Breton, in fact the only other I know of is Whycocomah (oppoiste side of the highway from the campground). So if you fancy a step back in time, grab a basket, load it with food and head for the picnic park. Or just drop by and find a cache, either way you leave with a smile. Please note the park is gated to vehicles in the off season, but it is a short walk in
