Geocache Description:

The cache is not located at the above listed coordinates.

Qu Yuan (343–278 BC), was a Chu State official in the Warring States Period. He was the earliest famous poet in China. When the Chu capital fell the patriotic poet drowned himself in the Miluo River.
When they heard of Qu Yuan's death, the local people were very sad, and rowed out on the river to search for his body, but were unable to find him. To preserve his body, the locals paddled their boats up and down the river, hitting the water with their paddles and beating drums to scare evil spirits away. They threw lumps of rice into the river to feed the fish, so that they would not eat Qu Yuan's body.
The dragon boat races represent the attempts to rescue and recover the body of Qu Yuan. This is said to be the origin of dragon boat racing.

What is a Dragon Boat?
A dragon boat is a 12 metre long canoe-like boat, wide enough to sit 20 people (2 abreast) along with a sweep to steer the boat and a drummer, and it is paddled over a course of approximately 500 metres in length. During races a dragon boat will feature the head and tail of a dragon, a mythological creature regarded by the Chinese as having dominion over the waters and exercising control over rainfall.

Recently, the two Albury/Wodonga Dragon Boat Clubs (Bravehearts and The Warriors) competed in the 2017 Australian Dragon Boat Championships which were held at the Gateway Lakes, Lemke Road, Wodonga, Victoria. Events were scheduled over five days for the thousands of spectators as over 2,500 paddlers participated in the carnival.
