Geocache Description:

In the early days of the automobile, cars tended to overheat on long or steep inclines. In the mountains there were various places where one could stop and get water to add to the car's radiator. Modern cars seldom need such service so the places used long ago are now forgotten and neglected. Built in 1938, the stone fountain at the base of Cooper Mountain provided just such a service for travelers coming through the area. In 1952, the water from the gravity fed spring was declared unsafe and the fountain was closed. Not much of it remains today. Just a small reminder of days long gone. Fountain is located at a wide spot so parking is not a problem. Terrain is flat but the area is a little overgrown so watch for poison, stickers, and wildlife. Bring your own pen to sign the log. Also...if for some reason you DNF this cache...please let me know by either logging or sending a private message. That way I can get out and check the cache to make sure everything is ok. From time to time, caches around here are known to go missing. Thanks!
