Geocache Description:

In Simcoe County Forest Stoney Tract, there is a fence so old that it runs through the center of a huge sugar maple.

Stoney Tract was one of the first post-logging wastelands to be identified for re-forestation in the 1920's. see http://www.simcoe.ca/dpt/fbl/about.  However, there's evidence that perhaps some farmer pre-dated this initiative and tried to make a go of it in the vicinity.  The geocahe is located on a row of quite out of place and quite old sugar maples.  I don't know how old they are, but they are nearly 60cm in diameter.  The intersting part is that there are several strands of fence wire running through the center of these old maples.    One can't help wonder if the fence or the maples came first.  In any event, it was a long long time ago.
