X Marks the SPoT for a Cache Meet Event Cache

This cache has been archived.

Simply Paul: Since everyone who attended this meet has logged it, and all travel-items have been booked out, it's time to archive it.
My thanks again to all who came along and gave me a memorable evening in this lovely village. Not only had I lived some rally-driving fantasies, I got to see areas of Applecross I'd never seen before. Nice! Until next time...

Geocache Description:

Applecross! A wild corner of Scotland and just far enough off the tourist trail to make it feel a bit special. A bit like it's just for you. I loved visiting this village in the 90s, and wasn't let down by it in 2015. Join me for a SPoT of dinner on Apple[X]?

Where: Applecross Inn, Shore Street, Applecross, Wester Ross, IV54 8LR. Telephone: 01520 744262

When: June 8th 2017, from 6pm to 7pm or a little later. This is the day of the General Election. There's very little phone, TV or radio signal up here. I'm hoping that's a bonus!

What: A welcoming gathering of cachers to chat about cachers, caches, and caching, plus swap travel items. Also, according to the pub's website, "Zetor in the Kailyard in the bar from 9pm". So if you'd like to stick around until later..? I've some miles to cover, so I may not be able to stay long after 7pm.

Why: Usually I host a 'Remote Pub' meet while in Scotland (see 2007, 2011, 2013, 2015) and decided 2017 deserves one too. Since I'll be in the area today to maintain The Road to Applecross and would also like to put the ghost of "You take the High Road..." (Beallach na Ba, Apl+) to rest, this seems like a good moment, and location, to pause.

How: Shore Street isn't the easiest place to reach, but if your vehicle can't get over the hill, there is a coast road to the north which is much longer, but easier going.

Who: Hungry cachers? The pub is famous for its seafood and serves food from noon til 9pm. New to caching or events? You'll be made especially welcome.

Fun fact: From Wikipedia: "In July 2010 a £40,000 investment enabled the opening of the UK's first unmanned petrol station, which uses a credit card reader to enable customers to serve themselves. The business was taken over by Applecross Community Company in 2008 in response to its possible closure. The only alternative involves a 36-mile (58 km) round trip to Lochcarron."
