Geocache Description:

Nominated as Europes leading tourist attraction for 2017

PARKING

  • Free Parking is available at the car park on the North side of Cobh Cathedral, which is a 10 minute walk to Kennedy Pier.
  • Free parking is also available further out at the Five Foot Way Car park, which is 1 mile from Cobh centre.
  • Parking in Cobh Centre is currently limited to 3 hours, there are plans to offer an extended parking ticket for Spike Island visitors in 2017.
  • Please note - parking is NOT allowed on Kennedy Pier.

SPIKE ISLAND

  • Spike Island is located off the coast of Cobh in beautiful Cork Harbour.
  • Heritage town Cobh is just 24 minutes by train or 25 minutes by car from Cork city centre.
  • Ferries depart from Kennedy pier Cobh, which is right in the town centre next to Titanic Cobh.
  • Tickets can be purchased from the kiosk on the pier, or book online.
  • Online booking is highly recommended during the busy summer months.
  • Cafe and toilet facilities located on site.
  • You are of course welcome to make your own way there, you will certainly earn your DT rating if you do, Ringaskiddy would probably be a better starting point for you in that case.
  • The Event is suitable for wheelchair users once you are on the island, the T rating is set to reflect the need to cross the water first

THE EVENT

  • At the posted coordinates, outside the cafe ( inside if it's raining)
  • Sunday 16th July
  • 12.30pm - 1pm
  • Looking forward to welcoming new cachers and old hands, locals and tourists, young and not so young.
  • Unfortunately no dogs apart from guide dogs are allowed on the island.
  • If anyone has trackables to move on or to be discovered please bring them along.
  • I Have booked the 11am Ferry from Kennedy Pier, returning on the 2.30 ferry.
  • If you want take in all that the island has to offer you will need the full 3.5 hours.
  • It is just possible that we may be attacked by the infamous pirate Captain Mary Hyde and her crew on the Golden Cache, so it might be advisable to wear pirate gear to blend in and avoid capture.
