Geocache Description:

48 State Cache Dash Introduction (GC79X8F)

This series of caches is intended to be a simulation of my 48 state trip, but on a much smaller scale, more or less making a counter-clockwise circuit of Dane county. If done in one trip, it will take several hours, depending on how long each stop is, and will cover somewhere in the neighborhood of 160 miles.

A few notes…

-Look for the state stickers on the beacons.
-They are all park and grabs.
-Most are winter friendly, some are not.
-Almost all caches are on road signs, a few guard rails.
-Look for magnetic key holders, pill bottles, or homemade pvc containers.
-All log times in the trip descriptions are Central Time.
-If using a cell phone for searching, there are some areas where the signal may be weak or lost altogether.
-If traveled in the intended order, most of the caches will be on the right side of the road, others might need a quick u turn.

This cache was not my first or even second choice for Mississippi, but ended up being a third choice. It started with a long 5 hr 45 minute drive from the northwest border of AR/MO all the way down to the southeast part of Arkansas across the Mississippi river into the town Greenville. I originally had a different cache in mind, a TB hotel in honor of a local Veterinarian. It was in a small grove of trees on the edge of private property. Since I got there well after dark, I felt really weird roaming around in there with a flashlight and I couldn’t seem to find it anyway. I left the area and moved on to something closer to town. The next attempt was on a busier highway at a diesel parts company. Spent several minutes here with no smiley face. Tried again for a third attempt at an old Kmart which looks like the parking lot was a overnight stop for a lot of semi trucks. This one was the ticket, just another simple park and grab in another light post cover. I decided this big parking lot would be a great place to get some rest and then get back on the road.

Departure Time – 4:16 am
