Anchor from Maroro (Central Hawkes Bay) Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Pushn_East: I'm moving away from the area (and the country!) so I'm slowly gathering up my caches like a responsible cache owner. Time to archive and remove the container for this one.

Geocache Description:

this cache is hidden near the Central Hawkes Bay Settlers Museum.

The Maroro was a three masted auxiliary, schnooner-rigged scow built in Whangaroa in 1904  she was owned by the Maroro Shipping Company

At 4.10am on October 24th 1927 the schnooer Maroro stranded itself inside the Blackhead Reef, near Porangahau. Luckily all hands were saved but her owners considered the task of refloating the vessel to be hopeless. The vessel was badly damaged and on November 23rd the Maroro was abandoned to the underwriters, eventually surrending to the elements and becoming a total wreck.

The cache is a nano hidden on the Mararo's Anchor
