Geocache Description:

St Anne's Church was built in 1898 and sits by the Paterson River at the base of the hill in the country town of Gresford. It contains a very beautiful churchyard with belfry and historic graveyard. The church is open to all so take the time to look inside and admire the wonderful stained-glass windows. To locate the cache you will need to take note of the total number these windows. All may not be visible from the inside so a walk around the outside may be necessary.

Gresford, along with many other places in the district, was named after a town on the Allyn River in North Wales. Gresford was first inhabited by cedar-cutters between 1812 to 1820 and the first land grants were given in the 1820s. Charles Boydell was granted 'Camyr Allyn', and George Townsend 'Cawarra', who later donated a portion of land for St Anne's church. Dr Henry Lindeman bought 'Cawarra' in 1842 and begin planting vineyards in 1843 to become one of Australia's most famous winemakers.

The graveyard behind the church contains the graves of Boydell and Lindeman with burials dating back to 1850. Also laid to rest here is that of Thomas Rodwell, a soldier who fought in the Battle of Waterloo in 1815.

St Anne's church was built to replace an old wooden church that was built here in 1856. The foundation stone was prepared to be laid by the first Bishop of Australia in 1845. The wooden church was then built over it before the stone was re-laid in 1898 for the new church. St Anne's is built in an Early-English gothic style brick.

Beside the church is a suspension bridge and the original ford across the river which once formed the main road to Singleton. Across the river is the oldest homestead in Gresford 'Ard-Na-Hane' built in the 1830s which once served as a hotel and coachstop, now a private home.

Subtract twice the total number of lancet arched windows from the south decimal and three times the number of lancet arched windows from the east decimal to find the cache.
