While wandering around looking for a new location for Paul Bunyan's Blue Bison, I was surprised to find this historical plaque.
When trying to verify the information on the plaque, I found an surprising inaccuracy. Lewis and Clark lay claim to an earlier celebration date in 1804. Theirs, however was only as far west as Kansas along the Missouri River where they found an unnamed creek. They received permission to name it Independence Creek.
The celebration included the firing of the keelboat cannon at sunset and the distribution of an extra ration of whiskey to the men.
I still decided this location was worth visiting, although after reading who celebrated at this location, I doubt there were any cannons fired or whiskey distributed.
So here is a simple field puzzle for you. It had to be this way as the plaque is too close to another cache, yet I would like you to see it. I have also added a waypoint to help you with the easiest pathways to the plaque and the final location.
There is a date on the plaque - 1ABC
A = __________ B = __________ C = __________
The number of evergreen trees (Douglas Fir) more than 5' tall within 10 feet of the plaque is D.
D = __________
Other letters, E and F:
E = A minus 1 = __________
F = D multiplied by 3 = __________
Using these numbers, solve for the final location located at N 47° 06.5BC W 122° 39.0EF.
Due to the colors of the container, please rehide completely so that non-cachers won't discover it.
