Geocache Description:

The community of Churchland has many interesting things to see.  This is one several caches that I plan to place detailing these areas.

Do not attempt this cache on Monday nights from 6:00-9:00 PM.  The area will be in use.  As always, any posts with spoilers will be deleted.

At the posted coordinates, you will find the grave of Richard Barnes surrounded by a low rock wall.  He was a member of what is now Churchland Baptist Church, which is to your left.  You will need to examine the monument in front of the grave to answer the following questions for the second stage location.  All locations have parking nearby and you can easily walk from one to the other.

Stage 2  location is  35°  #!.&$    80° %.@?\

#- Single digit- The number of children Richard Barnes had divided by 2.

!- Single digit- The number of letters in his wife’s first name.

&- Two digits- The number of letters in the name of who erected the monument in memory of Richard Barnes.

$- Single digit- The sum of the first two digits of the year of his wife’s death.

%- Two digits- The age of Richard minus 49.

@- Single digit- The first number in the year the monument was erected.

?- Single digit- The last number in the year Richard Barnes was a trustee of the Revival Congregation.

\- Single digit- The number of daughters Richard had.

You can follow the gravel road to the left of the grave.  It will take you towards stage 2 without going through the pasonage yard.

At stage 2, you will be in the woods attached to another graveyard.  This stage is much simpler with a question about the Boy Scouts of America that can be quickly searched online if you don’t already know the answer.  Once answered, you will have all you need for the final.

The final cache is located a short distance away.  There will be some bushwhacking involved.  On the way, you will pass the Tony Barbee Memorial Scout Center.  It was dedicated to my father who was an Assistant Scoutmaster for my Boy Scout Troop and it now serves the scouts of Troop 232.  Watch for poisonous plants and briars.  You are looking for a large ammo can.

If you know any boys, ages 5 to 17, who might be interested in the Boy Scouts, we meet every Monday night at 6:30.  Stop by for a visit.
