Close to the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, just off a public footpath up the hill.
A small snaplock box cache by a railway bridge in quiet woodland but only 2 miles from M6 and from Skelmersdale. There is no need to trespass on the railway or leave the track.
The most pleasant approaches are from Wood Lane (park at N53 35.282 W02 45.315) or along the canal towpath from Parbold or Appley Bridge or of course from Fairy Glen. If you have come here the shorter route, do take time to have at least a short walk along the canal and perhaps cross over the bridge below over the River Douglas and reflect that this was a navigation before the canal was built, linking Wigan to the sea.
Oh, the name of the cache - no it is not wrong spelling. The Wiggin Tree (since renamed) is/was a steak house/pub on the top of Parbold Hill due north of the cache and provides yet another approach route, but this may be a bit steep and slippery at times. Still if you want food and drink that is the way to go, and find out where the name comes from. You won't be far either from the Parbold Bottle and Parbold Viewpoint!
Please take care to replace as found as plenty of muggles pass this spot and try not to disturb the vegetation or I will set the nettles on you!
