Geocache Description:

A very simple park and grab, with a larger container. A good one to do with the kids. Say Hi to the guard sheep over the fence who will want to get a head scratch.

My first cache is placed close to home. It's 750ml four-clip Systema with space for TravelBugs, and is easy to find. Park up and grab it! At the time of placement, it contained pencils, log and two teabags holders.

This is the former site of the Amberley Railway Station. You can see the mound of the old platform to the right and the cache is located where the platform branch line deviated from the main tracks. There used to be three branch tracks here, as well as the main line. Two were across the present tracks, where the houses are. On that side there were goods sheds, loading ramps and cranes, and sheep and cattle pens. At the start of the street is the old Post Office and Post bank building and a replica of the Courthouse. All this land was gifted to Ngai Tahu as part of their Treaty settlement and then sold to developers.
