Geocache Description:

CACHE: Park and grab.

HISTORY: I came across a photo of railroad tracks through the woods. It was labeled as "Smith Woods, Almont". So I dug a little deeper, not being aware of any tracks that went through here. All I was able to verify was that the only property records for the Smith family in the area at the time the photograph was taken was in this section of Almont. Did the tracks connect Almont and Leonard or were these just a part of the Detroit United Railway? The DUR ran through Imlay, Almont and south into Rochester, so being a part of the DUR isn't out of the question. In the meantime, there was a place around that locals did in fact call "Smith Woods" and "Smithville" in the Sandhill area as noted in newspapers and a journal. The exact location is unknown. What the "town" contained is also unknown. It was not uncommon to give a group of farms in an area not near any villages or towns a name, but those names were gave up for whatever reason, time frame seems to coincide when auto transportation became a usual household possession. If you have anything to add to solve this mystery, feel free to share in your log.

*Note: at this writing I could not find the photo that inspired this cache. I will attach it and delete this comment when I come across it again.
