Geocache Description:

This geocache is dedicated to the origins of this fun activity of GEOCACHING.  It's located in a wooded area like the very first geocache outside of Portland, Oregon.

Cache is located in Camp Salmen.  Check hours of operation before visiting.

There's a trackable for the FTF.

So how did geocaching begin?

Before May 2, 2000, the government limited the accuracy of GPS.  Back then, your GPS could only get you within 50 yards (half the length of a football field) of where you need to go.  After, your GPS could get you within 5 yards or less of where you need to go!

The next day, Dave Ulmer placed a plastic container with some cool items and trinkets in the woods outside of Portland, Oregon.  He recorded the GPS coordinates and posted them on the internet.  3 days later, Mike Teague, found the container the rest is history.

Be sure to check out the location of the first geocache, the “Original Stash Tribute Plaque” (GCGV0P) when you’re in Oregon!

While hunting for this cache, picture yourself in Mike's shoes, snooping around for some hidden treasure.  After finding, maybe you'll be inspired to hide a cache of your own (or add more to your collection of caches) to keep this activity going for future generations to enjoy.
