Geocache Description:

CACHE: Park and grab. Park on dirt road. Container has swag. Hint is a giveaway, not that you'd probably need it.

HISTORY: Sometimes the records on this school are listed as Retherford, but most of them spell it as Rutherford, as are most of the official records at the state archives. The first school for the area was built on the SE corner of Tubspring and Glover, but this permanent structure was built in the early 1870's on the George Retherford farm. George is buried in the Ferguson Cemetery near Almont and lived to be 90. I don't have much history on the school. It closed in the late 1950's and students attended in the Almont district. In the early 1990's the school was found vacant with two piece of playground equipment, a bouncer and a swingset. A fuel oil tank sat beside the school. By 2002, the school was a residence, owner said the chalkboards were still inside. They had resided it, added dormers. About a decade later a garage was added and more upgrades made to the main structure. It's almost unrecognizable from it's original state. You wouldn't know it was a school unless you knew what you were looking for.
