CACHE: Park and grab. No need to leave road to find. This is an older style metal and concrete bridge that's held up pretty well.
HISTORY: On the NW corner of Dryden and Howland Roads was a well to do and well known farmer named Hiram Howland. He settled in Michigan and in the Almont area in the mid-1840's, coming from New York. He had two wives, both named Mary, all 3 are buried in Webster Cemetery on the Almont/Imlay border. This school was named for this early Almont Pioneer, who lived on this corner up until his death in 1894. I am not aware of the age of this structure, but the style does reflect one that would have been built in the mid-1800's, so it could be the original. It has been very well cared for over the years. Howland school was used just over 100 years.
