The Lore
The bosque trails in Albuquerque are some of my favorite spots in the city. However, since the trails along the river are well worn with travelers, by the time you reach the river bank, there are not often many skipping stones available to practice your throws. I figured I would give back by adding a cache of smooth river stones I collected for anyone desiring to practice their skill at river skipping on the Rio Grande not far away. I placed it near the trail head so you can have your pick of route to get to the river. There is also parking at the trailhead and I have included a waypoint at the parking lot to help you find it and return from the cache spot. Feel free to sign the log and take some stones with you to skip; and if you see that the stock of riverstones is getting low, feel free to collect some more stones and refill the cache.
Historic updates
P.S. I put in a bunch of differently sized, shaped, and weighted material flat stones so feel free to try out different shapes and take pictures and report back in your log about your riverstone skipping experience and which shapes work better or worse than others. FOR SCIENCE. AND THE GOOD OF ALL MANKIND! P.S.S. LOOK OUT FOR MOSQUITOES. Bring bug spray or something, and don't go at twilight.
*update 2/4/25* I finally got back to do maintenace and replace the log book. I was verklempt to find that many of the historical logs are still there, battered though they are. Some of them are still there dating back to 2020! The epoxy I used to attach those rocks is no joke man, they are still stuck to the tin. I clipped the old log books to the new book and added some new prizes for some not so new FTF. Please enjoy and thank you for making this such a successful cache to date. I also added some new stones finally but I need a better source for these. Take hand sanitizer with you! Happy caching!
*update* I readjusted the lid with some pliers so it closes better and added a ziploc to put the log in. Looks like the logs original box is gone so I'll try to come by again and fix the log situation. I also added a few things to the cache, such as some locally made patches, a few pins, and some scrolls I made years ago. They got me through a hard time, so take one if you feel inspired, hopefully it may do the same for you. Happy fall, and thanks so much for being a finder! Happy caching!
