Geocache Description:

This geocache is of significant historical interest. It is one of many way points along the route traveled by Sir Percy FitzPatrick and his faithful dog, Jock. 'Jock of the Bushveld' is a book written by Percy FitzPatrick, a transport rider, about his adventures with Jock, a Staffordshire Bull Terrier. It takes place in the Lowveld during the time of the gold rush in the 1880's and is well worthwhile reading.

This Jock way point is on the original wagon route from Sabie to Delagoa Bay (present day Maputo). In the next valley, the route passed over a drift, later a bridge, until the Klipkopie dam was built in 1960, submerging it. In times of drought, when the capacity of the dam reaches about 18%, the bridge is still visible.
