Geocache Description:

Wolfman Jack

This is a two-stage multi-cache with the stages less than a mile apart. The second stage of the cache has moved to a different lamp post. Get the coordinates from the Wolfman, then for the North coordinates subtract 17 (80 becomes 63); for West, subtract 11 (22 becomes 11). If you're having trouble receiving Wolfman's info go West to other end of parking lot and try again.

Robert Weston Smith, better known as Wolfman Jack, was one of world’s best known radio personalities.  In 1961, Smith was living in Shreveport, Louisiana when he had the idea of doing rock-and-roll/infomercial-style broadcasts from an AM “border blaster” radio station.  Smith created the Wolfman Jack persona and The Wolfman Jack Show began broadcasting on XERF (and later its sister station XERB) from a studio in Mexico.  With a very powerful signal that was not subject to U.S. regulatory limitations, the broadcast covered most of the Unites States.  Wolfman Jack’s raspy voice, signature howls and on-air antics quickly made him a popular national figure.  However, not many of his fans knew what Wolfman Jack looked like.  That changed when George Lucas cast Wolfman Jack in the film American Graffiti.  Lucas grew up a huge fan of Wolfman Jack and he gave him percentage of the film which proved to be very profitable.  In addition, The Wolfman Jack Show became one of the first rock-and-roll syndicated programs when Smith edited tapes of his old broadcasts and sold them throughout the world.  At the height, Wolfman Jack could be heard in 53 countries through more than 2,000 radio stations.  Wolfman Jack was such an important part of rock-and-roll radio that popular songs about him were recorded by Todd Rundgren, Leon Russell, Freddie King and the Guess Who.

The posted coordinates take you to the first stage where you’ll find a clue regarding how you can receive the GPS coordinates to the physical cache located at the second stage.  If you're having trouble receiving the Wolfman, head West to the other end of the parking lot and try again. After you get the clue at stage one, I suggest sitting in your car and letting Wolfman Jack guide you the rest of the way.  If you think you’re doing what you need to do and it isn’t coming, you might be better off parking in front of the bagel store in the same shopping center.  (And before you leave you can check out my first cache at the other end of the parking lot!)

WHEN YOU LOG YOUR FIND PLEASE BE CAREFUL WITH ANY HINTS. ALLOW YOUR FELLOW CACHERS TO GET THE SAME GROOVY EXPERIENCE YOU HAD!  Bring a pen and you may need tweezers or a pin to retrieve the log. Reach out if you need help: text or call 347.692.8897.

Directions: Your GPS may take you to a gas station where Route 111/Wheeler Road and Townline Road meet –  do not park there. You want to navigate to the entrance of Atrium Plaza at 900 Wheeler Road in Hauppauge and make a right immediately after entering the parking lot (you’ll pass a bagel store and the post office on your way to the back of the parking lot). If you enter the back of the parking lot from Townline Road, you’ll need to go right after entering the parking lot, drive around the building and past the bagel store and post office on your way to the back of the parking lot.

Congrats to ZeppelinDT &fyrefly_faerie for FTF!
