Geocache Description:

The cache is easy to find but beware of the muggles especially on the school run. The cache has room for small swaps and is a homemade magnetic.

If you take a walk around the corner you will see the beautiful building of Wheeler Primary School. The Wheeler Street Board Schools, were built nearby in 1902; originaly two buildings (an infants and a juniors) the surviving building (the old juniors) is now home to the Wheeler Street Primary School.

If you head further down Hawthorn Avenue you will see that there is a lot of building and redevelopment work taking place. In place of the former Amy Johnson School is a park with a statue to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Amy Johnson's death. The statue was unveiled in September 2016.

Amy Johnson was the first woman to fly solo from the UK to Australia, she was born in St George's Road on 1 July 1903. Her solo flight to Australia took 19 days and she landed in front of a huge crowd in Darwin on 24 May 1930. The 37-year-old died during World War Two when the RAF plane she was transporting crashed in the Thames Estuary on 5 January 1941.
