Originally called Dominion Day, the holiday was renamed in 1982, the year the Canada Act was passed. Canada Day celebrations take place throughout the country, as well as in various locations around the world, attended by Canadians living abroad.
I attended Canada Day celebrations on Parliament Hill in Ottawa way back in 1984 with my Canadian relations. It was the first time I had ever seen a glow stick and the first time I had been to a professional firework display. Everyone sung the national anthem and today can still only remember the first two words.....'Oh Canada'
.
In celebration of Canada Day come along with a picnic and earn yourself a special Canada Day souvenir for your profile. We will gather on the grass by the car park between 12 noon and 1 pm on Saturday 1 July 2017. Extra points for anyone who brings a Canadian flag or anyone who is actually Canadian.
You will have the opportunity to meet other cachers, swap caching stories and swap trackables.
Nothing at all to do with Canada, but after the event we plan to go on a 'Viking Raid' in the hills above Arrochar station. If you would like to join us on the 6 km (ish) walk, you are more than welcome. We will depart the car park at 1 pm. Please ensure you have waterproofs, good boots, poles and food/water with you.
Please note that although the event is wheelchair friendly, the walk will be roughly a terrain 2.5 with boggy bits.
