Ovington's Hangar Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

holazola: I'm giving up on this one. I already replaced 4 times for 40 finds and only 1 FP. Wasn't even found before missing again this time. Not worth the maintenance hassle.

Geocache Description:

A hide to point out some Interesting Goleta History. You are looking for a white magnetic tin.

This historic building began life in the 1920's as an airplane hangar for Earle Ovington, who is famous for being the first pilot to officially carry U.S. air mail way back in 1911. His private airfield - the "Ovington Air Terminal" was located on the present-day Santa Barbara Community Golf Course . After being forced to move his operation out to Goleta (near the intersection of Hollister and Fairview), he sold the building and it was moved to this current location. It was used as a Caterpillar Tractor showroom until 1955, when it was converted to the 101 Ranch market. It finally became the Santa Cruz Market in 1992. Also of note is the now rare S&H Green Stamps sign that has been on the building since the 1950's.
