Geocache Description:

Schuyler Mansion was the home of Revolutionary War Major General Philip Schuyler and his wife Catharine van Rensselaer Schuyler.  The Georgian architecture of the Schuyler’s home was a showcase of fashion along the Hudson River and the first of its kind in Albany in the 18th c.  While the interior of the home was lavishly decorated, Schuyler spent considerable time on his gardens, as well.  Visitors commented on the formal gardens and strolled throughout the pastoral landscape dotted with decorative trees and flowering shrubs during the Schuyler’s time (1765-1804).  The view from the mansion has changed drastically since the city developed around the home in the 1830s. The view was once down a gently sloping pastoral hill to the river and The Greenbush beyond and the home’s name,  The Pastures, was entirely fitting.  We invite you to explore the Visitor Center and sign up for a tour during open hours.

This geocache is available when the site is open.  May – October, Wednesday – Sunday…and sometimes Monday and Tuesday.  Call 518 434-0834 to be sure and not be stumped.
