WATERSHED 4
At the GZ you will find yourself near the Linton Service Basin.
Constructed in 1972 this water storage site holds 2.3 Million Liters of water in a covered basin that has a depth of 3.1 meters. This is one of the older examples of this type of water storage in the area and relics of older water management systems can be seen around the current site if you look hard enough.
Covered water storages like this are often used where contamination of water by sources like leaves, dust, bird droppings is more likely to occur. Keeping the water covered also reduces or eliminates the occurrence of algae blooms which add a lot of cost to treating water to make it suitable for drinking. This is mainly due to the removal of sunlight which limits the algae's ability to photosynthesize.
Access to the GZ is made off the Linton-Carngham Rd. Follow the access road up to the water stroage site and you can park quite close to the GZ. You do not need to enter water authority property for this geocache.
