Geocache Description:

It's fun driving along Route 9 and seeing all of the places where Route 9 was rerouted over the years. Here is one of the places where it is obvious what it used to be.Β

A roadside grab on an old section of old Route 9. This is now Notch Road but Route 9 used to come through here.

You are looking for a painted pill bottle on top of a large rock, maybe winter friendly, but probably not really.

This is a dead end road that ends in front of a house. There is a place to turn around before you get to the bridge to the house.

From reviewing Vermont Agency of Transportation map archives it appears that this section of Route 9 was rerouted between 1955 and 1962. Route 9 traveled closer to the City Stream up the mountain from here, well below the current roadway, then crossed the river on a bridge, now gone) before crossing the existing bridge over a side brook and passing this location. The new road bypassed the old bridge location by going through the rock cut above here and over a new bridge. 1952-1955 AOT Map.

This is fourth in a growing series of caches marking old sections of Route 9 between Brattleboro and Bennington.
