Poplar Ridge Cemetary (sic) Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

coachstahly: It's time to put this one to bed. I've replaced it a few times and that seemed to "fix" things, but the final host has grown a bit taller and it's harder to be able to retrieve the final unless you're taller, like me.

Geocache Description:

This short 3 stage multi brings you to an older cemetery in the midst of Carmel suburbia.  This cache has a vinyl log so BYO writing utensil that will leave an indentation or some ink on the log.  NO NIGHT CACHING! The posted coordinates bring you to Gerald C., the first marker you'll need to visit in order to get ABC.

I've lived here for over 15 years and had no idea this cemetery was here.  Due to construction, I had to take a different route and I went right past this hidden spot and had to turn around because I couldn't believe my eyes.  I visited through the course of a couple days and managed to spot quite a few veterans (including a Marine major) AND a Civil War soldier (see included waypoint to visit).  There's also a sad family story on the eastern edge of the cemetery, near the tree where the elevation drops off into a small hollow, which involves the Graves family (unfortunate name for a family in a cemetery).  This couple lost not one, but two infant sons, who are interred next to their mother.  Interestingly enough, I can't seem to locate the father's marker with a date of death.

As a former Navy veteran, I'm always on on the lookout for fellow shipmates and I managed to find two who are interred here.  You're going to visit both of them but don't worry, they're located one behind the other. Once you find them, you'll need to plug in some numbers from their markers, based on the "formula" below, in order to locate the final stage.

N 39° 58.ABC W 086° 10.DEF

A - Day of death + 1

B - RM (B)

C - RM (C)

Head to the waypoint provided for John D. for DEF

D - Like B and C above - F (D) + 3

E - Year of birth - 19E1

F - Which WW did he serve in? +3

Final is a small tube with a vinyl log only, due to the extreme possibility of water being present at GZ.
