Stop in and say hi, grab some grub, maybe a prize, and earn a souvenier. We are setting the time of this event from 12:00 (noon) to 4:00 pm. You do not have to stay the whole time, but with it being the weekend of the 4th of July, I figure lots of folks will have other stuff to attend so I tried to make this where you could run by, hang out for a bit and still get credit, even if you're not there for the whole thing.
The coordinates will take you straight to Shelter #2 which I have rented for the day. It is in an area by itself, with plenty of parking, a playground, its own toilets and everything but the playground is wheelchair accessible. There are two trails, one which leads right from the shelter and lots of room to ride bikes, skates, or skateboards. The rest of the park will also be open to explore if you so desire. (Turkey Spur may be closed due to construction but I'm not sure).
Grandview Park is now part of the New River Gorge National Park system. It is a day use facility with multiple overlooks of the New River, plenty of trails, a visitor center, and lots of history. Theater WV holds their yearly programs here which include Hatfields and McCoys and Honey in the Rock. The National Park also carries on several programs here, including guided hikes and birding hikes. Active SWV has also been holding many of their activities in the park as well. You can check their respective websites to see if they may have something going on this weekend.
DRIVING DIRECTIONS TO GRANDVIEW
From I-77 coming from anywhere, merge onto I-64 Eastbound toward Lewisburg
TRAVELING I64 EASTBOUND
Take Exit 129B/Grandview Rd. Once on Grandview Rd, stay straight. The road ends in the park and the coordinates will take you to shelter #2
TRAVELING I64 WESTBOUND
Take exit 129. Turn right onto Grandview Rd, and follow straight into the park.
Food details: we are providing hot dogs and the fixins'. Everyone who plans to attend, bring a side dish. To help folks out, when you log your will attend mention what dish you are bringing and everyone can keep up with what else might need to be brought.
Hope to see a good turnout. We wanted to do something a little different than we have before and who doesn't love a picnic!!! The shelter is large enough to hold 135 people so we should have plenty of room to mingle and visit and get to know each other without standing on top of each other. If anyone plans on traveling please message WV5_0 and I can make hotel suggestions. Little Beaver State Park also has a campground and its only a couple of miles away. Come party and earn a souvenir!!
