At the time of the end of the war on August 11, 1945, an air raid was made around Tosu Station in Saga Prefecture, which was the base of rail transport in Kyushu. On the day, people working for the staff and student mobilization who had been working in the distribution room of the JNR Tosu Power District were evacuated in the air defense shelter, but a 500 pound bomb struck the air defense shelter and 7 staff members (17 years old ~ 34 years old), 6 student mobilizers (14 to 17 years old) lost their precious lives. In the Tosu air raid at that time the sacrifice in one place was the most sacrificed, dealing as a duty as a death, and in connection with this painful death in December the staff of the Tosu Electric Power District and volunteers within the Moji Railroad Management Office The donation money of Kimono built Shitoko at the place where there was a shelter.
The Tosu Power District which was transferred to Kyushu Railway Co., Ltd. took over the memorial service which had been held since the JNR era, which is the 68th time this year, but on August 11 every year, the Tensou monument In front of us, we are holding a memorial service to swear to our spirits our thoughts that have been entrusted to the safety of today's railroad and the god of the spirit who has dedicatedly protected the railroad.
終戦を目前にした昭和20年8月11日、当時、九州の鉄道輸送の拠点でありました佐賀県鳥栖駅周辺に空襲が決行されました。当日、国鉄鳥栖電力区の配電室で作業を行っておられた、職員と学徒動員の方々は防空壕に避難されておりましたが、防空壕に500ポンド爆弾が直撃して職員7名（17歳～34歳）、学徒動員6名（14歳～17歳）の尊い命が奪われました。当時の国鉄は鳥栖空襲において1箇所での犠牲が一番多かったことを踏まえて殉職として取り扱うと伴に、この痛ましい殉職に対して同年12月に鳥栖電力区職員と門司鉄道管理局内の有志の義捐金により、防空壕のあった場所に「頌魂碑（しょうこんひ）」を建立しました。
九州旅客鉄道株式会社に移行した鳥栖電力区は、国鉄時代より開催しておりました慰霊祭を引き継ぎ、今年で68回目になりますが毎年8月11日に頌魂碑（しょうこんひ）」の前で、鉄道を献身的に守られた英霊のご冥福と今日の鉄道の安全を委ねられた我々の思いを英霊に誓うために慰霊祭を開催しております。
