Bored with caches hidden in bus stops? Well, here's one with a twist. You will need to "spot" two of the buses listed below. Use the information from them to work out the co-ords of the final. There is no need to actually get on the buses. All of the information required is carried on the outside of them.
Three buses are listed for each of the south and east co-ords. You only need to spot ONE of the buses from each list. This is to increase the odds in your favour and to cover for the possibility of a bus being off-the-road for an extended period for repairs etc. All of the buses are operated on Dunedin service routes i.e. routes listed in the Dunedin city bus timetable. Remember that more than one company is contracted to operate Dunedin bus routes.
South co-ords
Puzzle update on 30/8/20: a check of online bus fleet lists show only one of the buses previously listed here for the South co-ords is still operational in Dunedin. For that reason, the South co-ords are no longer a puzzle and are given to you. They are S45 47.490
East co-ords
Spot the bus using its four-digit fleet number. Then record its registration plate number. Disregard the three letters from the registration plate number and use the remaining numbers to do the calculation. Remember that you only need to spot ONE of the buses from this list. Puzzle update on 30/8/20: a check of online bus fleet lists show that all three of the buses listed here for the East co-ords are still operational in Dunedin.
5001 = JKL KL x 335.09278
5004 = MNO NO x 1912
5011 = PQR PR x 365.21348
Your answer will be a five digit number. Add a decimal point in the obvious place, add 170 degrees east in front and you have your east co-ord.
You are strongly advised to check your answer as a correct result will reveal important information about the final.
Time to get out there and start bus-spotting!
