Geocache Description:

Another of my (HIST/EDU) series to replace a cache originally at this location.

Binghamton University started out in Endicott as Triple Cities College following WW2. Millions of veterans were seeking higher education under the GI Bill of Rights. These veterans obtained a free education at Government expense. After a few years when most were educated the government funding ended. Locals not wishing the college to be closed, keep it open for all and renamed it Harrpur College before moving to the present location. In the 1960's long before the age of Personal Computers IBM was a major employer in this area. The very first computer programmers were engineers in their employment. Many of these engineers were interested in further education in their field, but there were no opportunities in the Binghamton area. The solution was to travel north to Syracuse University to pursue further education. In the 1970's a small group of professors from Syracuse University came to Binghamton to provide this education. The first degrees offered were in Advanced Technology (the fore runner of present day computer science). Eventually the T J Watson School of Engineering was formally a  part of the present day Binghamton University. Students today can not only pursue bachelor degrees in all engineering curriculum but advanced degrees as well.

This is a very SIMPLE puzzle cache and no hints for final should be necessary. The posted coordinates will take you to a HISTORICAL marker on RT 434 in Vestal (Canal Extension). Record the year the canal was abandoned, and use to solve the puzzle.

N 42 05.606 W 075 57.XXX where XXX is the first three digits of date + 322.
