This cache relates an experience we had while constructng our " Barbed Wire Telephone". Look south from the cache and you can see a second bridge. That is the bridge & trail used prior to 219 construction . A trail wound up the hill to the west .
At the top of the hill a gate and trail went south to the Salvation Army Camp . When stringing the wire for our " telephone network " a gate required two 12 ft. poles upright on either side of the gate and a strand of barbed wire over the top to carry the current . As we were erecting this one a portly well dressed man in a big car drove up and demanded to know what we were doing. We tried to explain but it was plain that he wanted us and our wire gone . Two scruffy teens in an old jalopy did not impress him . Art Herman the owner of the land was standing by observing all this so he stepped in to explain that while this was the Salvation Army Camp trail it ran through his pasture for several hundred yards . He allowed the camp to use it as a courtesy but if they wanted a road of their own the path lay east across the creek for 1/2 mile to the road allowance . Once that sank in the portly man became very polite and wished us well with our telephone network. The cache " Barbed Wire Telephone " south of the creek is at the trail that became possible after hi-way 219 was built . This is another bison tube magnetic with only a log .
