Sint-Jans-Molenbeek or Molenbeek-Saint-Jean, often simply called Molenbeek, is one of 19 municipalities in the Brussels-Capital Region (Belgium). It is bordered by the City of Brussels, Anderlecht, Sint-Agatha-Berchem, Dilbeek, Jette and Koekelberg. Sint-Jans-Molenbeek is bordered to the east by the Brussels-Charleroi Canal. The Molenbeek brook, from which it takes its name, flows through the municipality.
In 2014, the municipality had a population of 94,854 inhabitants. It is densely populated, at 16,357/km², twice the average of Brussels. The upper area is greener and less densely populated.
In 2015, the municipality gained international attention as the base of Islamic terrorists, who carried out attacks in both France and Belgium. The municipality's mayor has described it as "a breeding ground for violence". The commune of Molenbeek has gained a reputation for being a safe haven for jihadists in relation to the support shown by some residents towards the bombers who carried out terrorist attacks in Paris and Brussels.

Sint-Jans-Molenbeek of kortweg Molenbeek is een plaats en gemeente in het westen van het Brussels Hoofdstedelijk Gewest. Sint-Jans-Molenbeek heeft zijn oostgrens aan het kanaal Charleroi-Brussel; de Maalbeek (ook wel Molenbeek) stroomt door de gemeente. De gemeente maakt de laatste jaren een stormachtige groei door en telt nu ruim 96.000 inwoners waar dit er in 2000 nog maar 71.000 waren. Molenbeek is een industrie- maar vooral een woongemeente.
De gemeente grenst met de klok mee aan Sint-Agatha-Berchem, Koekelberg, Jette, Brussel (zowel Laken als de kernstad zelf), Anderlecht en in het uiterste westen aan het Vlaams-Brabantse Dilbeek.

Elle est officiellement bilingue français - néerlandais, comme les autres communes de Bruxelles. Au 1er janvier 2015, elle comptait 96 346 habitants (Molenbeekois) (48 028 hommes et 48 318 femmes). Sa superficie est de 5,89 km2. La commune est densément peuplée : elle compte 16 357,56 habitants/km², soit le double de la moyenne bruxelloise. Molenbeek-Saint-Jean est limitrophe des communes de Bruxelles-ville, Anderlecht, Dilbeek, Berchem-Sainte-Agathe, Koekelberg et Jette.
Dans les années 1950 et 1960, une importante communauté marocaine, principalement venue du Rif, vient s'installer dans la région. Aujourd'hui, plus de la moitié des habitants molenbeekois sont d'origine marocaine.
Molenbeek-Saint-Jean connait une notoriété médiatique mondiale depuis les attentats de Paris du 13 novembre 2015 suivi de ceux du 22 mars 2016 à Bruxelles, comme un vivier du terrorisme islamiste en Europe et un foyer de l'islamisme radical en Belgique. La commune bruxelloise est souvent considérée comme la capitale européenne du djihadisme.
