Geocache Description:

An introductory lesson to a bit of history of Ontario's highway system. In this case a provincial highway which is now a collection of county roads.

Highway 81 originally ran from Delaware (Highway 2) to Strathroy (Highway 22). Shortly after the highway was built to its northern terminus at Strathroy the highway was extended to Grand Bend. The highway served mainly as a collector route from other roads in the area, and only served the counties of Middlesex and Huron. Like many provincial highways in the 1990's this highway was downloaded by the provincial government to the counties of Middlesex and Huron. Today this former highway is signed as County Road 18 respectively by the County of Middlesex and the County of Huron.
