Geocache Description:

A short walk and easy find, this cache will take you to one of the smaller and more hidden trails in Bozeman, where an old rail used to run.

--- Cache Information ---

Parking should be easy on both the north and south sides of this cache, but be respectful of the residents and make sure your car is legally parked and not blocking anything.

The cache is discoverable without leaving the trail, although some leaning and reaching may be necessary. The container is a bison tube. See the hint for more.

--- History ---

Exploring Bozeman, I was surprised to find what appears to be an old rail bridge here, converted into a walking path. Looking up old topo maps, a small rail appears, going from the "Cannery District" out to the main rail line, via the Bon-Ton Flour Mill.

(USGS 1:62500-scale Quadrangle for Bozeman, MT 1953)

I was unable to find very much information about this, but it appears to have existed in the 1950's and 60's, and was mostly likely used by the Bon-Ton Flour Mill, and possibly by the Lehrkinds brewery and bottling plant.

The trail was created by the Gallatin Valley Land Trust.
