There are both red and grey squirrels at the Kortright centre. Red squirrels are much smaller than their grey cousins and they act in slightly different ways. Look for caches of half chewed cones under the trees along this trail. Squirrels spend the summer and fall collecting cones and nuts so that they will have food over the winter. The red squirrels hide their winter food all in one or two caches. They can have huge piles of food by the time winter comes along. Grey squirrels on the other hand will hide seeds and cones in lots of different places; one cone in one hole, one in another.
