Geocache Description:

We are hosting a Cash In Trash Out (CITO) event on Sunday, June 4th, from 2:00 pm until 4pm to assist with clearing some of the trails around Hemlock Lake and to introduce new cachers to geocaching with respect for the community and our parks.  Seasoned cachers welcome too!

Drive to Parking just to the WEST of:

7412 Rix Hill Rd

Hemlock, NY 14466

42.776388, -77.612041

We will have an informational and social meet-and-greet at the Hemlock Park Shelter near the parking lot before walking/hiking to area geocache co-ordinates as per our printouts. If there is enough interest at this event, we'll set-up future events with new hides.

We will have PlantSpirit on hand for botanical information and guidance about invasive species and CarolLLCA to remind us how to have fun with good body mechanics and awareness in the community. Sophydra will provide technical support to new geocaching app. users. Though we want to focus on nature and on connecting face-to-face, we recognize this global positioning activity requires some use of devices in the woods. Bring your hand-held GPS devices, charged up cell phones, power sticks and extra phone batteries if you have them.

We will have some gloves and bags. If you have your own gloves and extra grocery bags to reuse please bring along too, as well as sunscreen, bug spray, long pants, sturdy shoes, and water. We want to get some fresh air, and lend a hand, offering a few hours of our time to help clear the trails, making them safer and more accessible for everyone to enjoy. You are welcome to stay afterwards to find more caches. There are three multi’s and seven basic caches in the first two miles of trails found on both sides from the north end of the lake. People also picnic there and fishing is allowed south of the (northern) boat launch on the beautiful undeveloped shores of Hemlock Lake. (Geocaching is open to 13-18 year olds under the supervision of a parent or legal guardian).

If you can make it out for this CITO event, your reward will be a bit of exercise, the chance to explore, connect with like-minded people and enjoy these beautiful trails and the warm feeling from helping out a wonderful, local community.  We will have a log sheet for you to sign in and a geocaching keychain prize.

Please let us know if you can come and what you will bring with a 'Will Attend' or 'Will not Attend' below.
