Geocache Description:

This cache is located along the whistler ski trail at Okemo Mountain. Whistler is a fun blue square trail divided into two sections. The first section is a narrow trail with tree islands, the second section is an open glade run with a groomer path through it. The entire trail is a designated “family zone”. Whistler is a great trail, because it provides a nice alternative adventure to the usual wide, open, and sometimes crowded slopes without the challenge many of the steeper, tighter glades have. I’d recommend this for mid to strong novices and up, as this trail offers plenty of wiggle room for a glade, and is especially good if it’s your first time in such a trail. Oh one more thing, watch out for the scary faces!

Note that the trail isn’t always open if snow coverage isn’t adequate. If it’s closed you can stop at the entrance/exit and hike To it. To ensure whistler is open when you’re there, check the snow report before heading out.

To access cache in winter months: The cache itself is location on the first section of the trail. To access it, you will need to make your way to the summit lodge. The quickest and most well known way to get there is to take the A/B quads and ski down to the Sunburst Six, the main summit lift with protective “bubbles”. If it’s a busy day, you can also take advantage of the many other lifts that connect you to the top (such as the Black and Green ridge triples and Sachem and Glades Peak quads). The F-10 carpet lift also links you to the Sachem Quad. Always look at a trail map to plan where you are going. Once at the summit lodge, take a right off either of the lifts that end there, or head left a bit if coming from above. Look for the sign for Easy Rider trail (green circle). Keep left as you curve around to Easy Rider (do not head straight onto the Sweet Solitude trail). Make sure to look at the signs. After a little over 100 yards on Easy Rider, you’ll see the sign for Whistler on your right. Turn here and the cache is shortly ahead. I won’t say much about the container itself, because it’s a bit of a surprise :)

To access in spring/summer/fall months: You can drive up the Mountain Road from the base of the mountain or hike up via the healdville trail, originating at the trailhead in the hamlet of Healdville, VT.A small parking area is located at the top of the road. Follow the “The Narrows” ski trail on the trail map which will take you right to whistler.
