Geocache Description:

This cache is only accessible by water only and is part of the Missouri River Water Trail.

What's better than enjoying the water in Montana. This cache is located along an arm of the Missouri River on the outskirts of Helena. This cache will require a boat, kayak, raft or canoe to retrieve. This is one of a series of 16 caches from the Causeway fishing access to Black Sandy State Park making up the Missouri River Water Trail.

This 3.9 mile part of the river, The Causeway Arm, was formed when the Hauser Dam was built in 1908 and the rising water of the reservoir created Hauser Lake and Lake Helena. This narrow canyon was previously home to Little Prickly Pear Creek. Before Montana was a state, and the Missouri River was dammed, the Lewis and Clark expedition explored the area. This area is not only rich in history, but also home to multitudes of wildlife to take in as well, with various mammals and waterfowl to see. We have seen raccoons, Great Blue Herons, Pelicans, Red Tailed Hawks, Bald Eagles and many other songbirds and birds of prey in the area as well. If you like to fish, the Missouri River is known worldwide to be an excellent home of a variety of species of game fish, so drop a line while you float & cache if you'd like, but be sure to have a valid Montana Fishing license first.

The River is no where near "white water", however be mindful of the weather forecast before you paddle, because you never know how fast a storm can hit. Be careful and wear a life vest!If going alone, please let someone know what you are doing before you get on the water. It is a family friendly river, so pack a lunch & have a great time. We always enjoy this little gem in our backyards!

The caches are a mixture of containers....all hidden in a way that is only accessed by paddling, boating, or floating. Please replace them exactly as you found them to make sure they stay in place for future searchers. Also, we ask if you can please TRY to dry your hands the best you can before getting the log out of the containers and close the containers tightly when finished as to prevent them from getting wet.
