The nearby golf course has origins dating back to 1892 when it was built on land occupied by the old Bromley race course, which itself was established in 1864. Over its long history it has been reduced from 18 holes to nine – after WW2 some of the course was developed for recreation and sports fields, partly to serve the nearby Coppice Estate which was being built at the time. The current 9 hole course was founded in 1948, although this has also been subject to more recent remodelling to accommodate the neighbouring Bishop Justus school. The club house is built on the site of the farmhouse for Coopers Farm, which occupied the land before the race course.
